M842 Redundancy System

Dual Redundant Changeover

Time & Frequency Solutions recommend the use of a 'dual-redundant system' whereby a changeover unit links two timing systems, with the ability to switch the signal from one to the other if a failure occurs.

Features

  • Provides continuous output supply when a fault occurs in the primary timing system.
  • Manual or automatic operation
  • Remote access available through optional Network Management System (NMS)
The M842 Redundancy System provides a specific output (e.g. serial, parallel, timecode) through an intelligent interface module on each M211 timing system. Upon detection of a fault within any of the M211 timing systems, the system will automatically switch to the functioning M211 timing system. The outputs from each M211 timing system are connected together in the M842 interconnection unit, which continuously supplies an output of the required signal.

In normal operation, the system outputs are taken from the Primary M211 timing system. If the fault is detected within the primary timing system, the M842 system automatically switches the system outputs to the secondary timing system, ensuring continued availability of the timing system outputs.

Upon resumption of satisfactory operation of the Main timing system, the M842 system will automatically switch the system outputs to the Main timing system. Manual controls are also provided on the M842 interface equipment for the selection of manual/automatic operation and in manual mode, the selection of either the M211 timing system for data output.

To enhance the redundancy system further, the Time & Frequency Solutions "Network Management System" offers additional remote access and monitoring.

Specifications:

M842 Changeover Modules

The Dual Redundancy Systems require the M211 timing systems to be fitted with the intelligent range of interface modules, and the Status Interface Module as part of the integrated system. The Intelligent range of modules monitor each output of the interface and activate the outputs according to the system request. The Status Interface Module interface provides the necessary communication between the M211 timing systems.

Automatic & Manual Controls

Automatic or Manual selection of the Timing Systems is available via front panel controls on the interface (Alarm & Transfer) unit.

Interface signal levels, software and internal hardware status is monitored at all times, and automatic switching of the systems will occur in the event of faults being detected.

Remote Access

The optional "Network Management System" is provided as a software package and once installed provides the user with an easy to use graphical user interface. The interface allows the user to monitor the system either from an overview or in detail. Log reports are produced, displayed and recorded for any errors or faults that occur within the timing system.

The Network Management System allows remote configuration control and monitoring by means of the Simple Network Management Protocol. (SNMP). The software is offered with a variety of options such as different platforms, customisation and can be delivered on a pre-configured PC.
