Applications in Security

  • CCTV
  • DVR
  • ACS
  • Network Synchronisation
  • Legally Traceable Time Stamp

The ability to synchronise security equipment is becoming ever more important.   This is not only for ensuring consistency, but also for evidential purposes.

Digital images captured from CCTV must have legally traceable and accurate time and date stampings to be admissible as evidence in court proceedings.
Many existing systems rely on internal PC clocks which drift over a period of time, becoming increasingly inaccurate.

Other systems use time information available from the Internet, but this allows data to travel through a firewall, increasing the potential risk of hackers or viruses obtaining access into the network.  Also, there are few or no guarantees that the information being provided is accurate or reliable.

TFS has addressed this by developing systems that provide satellite signals (e.g. GPS, BEIDOU, GLONASS, etc.) or analogue time code signals (e.g. IRIG-B, AFNOR, etc.) to the surveillance computer network.  This results in a very cost-effective way to provide legally traceable time.

Our solutions involve distribution of the GPS or time code signal via a network time server.  The UMC40 Universal Master Clock is particularly suited to security applications as it provides cost-effective accurate time over an Ethernet via Network Time Protocol (NTP).  NTP is the industry-standard means of time distribution over discrete networks.
